The award aims at facilitating/felicitating the worker, who has contributed to the rural development through his outstanding work in the respective field and has given exceptional inputs for bringing about a change in the lives of the rural masses. The award was first instituted in connection to the golden jubilee year of Indian Independence (1997).

Since then ten persons have been felicitated by this award by the hands of eminent personalities.

The award consists of a citation, a medal and cash of Rs. 2,500/-. Ms. Vidhya Ketkar, Pune very openhandedly has donated an amount of Rs. 100,000/- for this award. The donations towards the said facilitation will defiantly ensure the facilitation of all contributing to the noble cause.
